Al Schleappe, DVM
Dr. Schleappe is a 1984 graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.
Upon graduation he accepted a position in Columbia, Missouri where he practiced large and small animal medicine for 3 years.
Dr. Schleappe moved to Arizona , with his wife and two daughters, in 1987 where he worked in a small animal referral hospital in Mesa Arizona.
In 1991, as a member of the United States Army Reserve Veterinary Corp, He was called to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm. Upon returning from his 6 month active duty assignment, Dr. Schleappe and his wife started Caring Hearts Animal Clinic in Gilbert, Arizona, in October of 1991.
Caring Hearts Animal Clinic was moved to its current location at 3045 E. Baseline Rd in Gilbert, Arizona in July of 2004.
Dr. Schleappe is a member of the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association (AZVMA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
Omar Montes, DVM
Dr. Omar Montes is an inspiring success story at Caring Hearts Animal Clinic. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Mexico to pursue his dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian and to experience life in a different way.
He got his Veterinary degree in 2003 from the University in the State of Colima, Mexico. He then went on to complete a three year residency in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of the State of Mexico in 2006.
Dr. Montes has been employed at Caring Hearts Animal Clinic since 2007. He received his Veterinary license to practice in the United States in 2011 after successfully completing a certification exam administered by the American Veterinary Medical Association. This is one of the most rigorous examinations used to evaluate the skills and knowledge of foreign veterinary graduates. Dr. Montes has broad clinical interests including general practice surgery and dentistry. Dr. Montes has a love for the profession and for helping people and their pets.
At home, he enjoys life with his wife and their two children.
Hayley Schafer, DVM
Dr. Hayley Schafer was born and raised in San Diego, California.
She studied Animal Science and Management at UC Davis and went on to obtain her Doctorate of Veterinary medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 after completing her clinical training at Ohio State University. She has a special interest in surgery and dentistry.
In her free time, Dr. Schafer enjoys spending time with family, traveling, shopping and riding her horse. In addition to her horse, she shares her home with her three cats, a dog and 2 chickens.
